Welcoming Caregiver Jojo!

Meet our team! The Ambiance Care team has grown again and it’s time we shone the spotlight on our fantastic Jojo, who’s actually been with us now for some time, providing meaningful dementia care for our clients in Stockport and across East Cheshire.

Jojo is a key member of the team, all of whom have become close friends, sharing their knowledge of dementia care while also providing mutual support and encouragement. Kind, caring and genuine, Jojo is a real asset to Ambiance Care – we’re sure our clients and families will agree!

We asked Jojo to tell us a bit more about her background, what matters to her and why she made the decision to join Ambiance Care. Here’s what she had to say.

Where are you based?

I live in Romiley, Stockport, with my husband, Graham, and have a 21-year-old stepson who has just finished university. We’re so proud of him and have just attended his graduation.

What’s your professional background?

I was a Senior Deputy Nursery Nurse for 30 years, working with babies from 4 weeks old to 2.5 years old. Caring for others has always been part of my working day and something I find extremely rewarding.

Any key areas of experience?

As well as caring for babies and children, I first started caring for adults 20 years ago when my godfather had a stroke. With my help, he was still able to live independently until he passed away last year at the age of 79.

I was more than happy to help him continue living where he felt most comfortable – in his own home, and this is something we all prioritise at Ambiance Care. We provide just enough support so that our clients can remain as independent as possible in the community they know.

Why did you decide to work with Ambiance Care?

I’d worked with babies all of my career and at the age of 51, I decided it was time for a change. All my old colleagues I’d worked with for 30 years had retired and the childcare industry was changing; it didn’t feel right for me anymore.

My confidence and sense of self started to ebb away and the time felt right for me to make a switch. I saw that Ambiance Care were hiring and the way Diane works – so gently and warmly – really appealed to me. I’m so glad I made the change, and I haven’t looked back.

What are your own values when it comes to work?

I always say to the families of the person I am caring for that I will look after their loved one as I would have my own mum and dad. I lost both my parents at ages 20 and 21, just 11 months apart. My mum was 53 and dad was just 51, so I never had the privilege of looking after them in their old age.

For someone to give me that opportunity – to trust me with such a precious gift as their parents – is truly an honour to me.

What do you enjoy about working for Ambiance Care?

At the time I applied for a role with Ambiance Care, I was feeling a little lost and my confidence was low. I tried to hide it but I think Diane saw I was struggling a little bit. She took me under her wing and slowly but surely, I am getting my mojo back.

The other girls are also so caring and lovely, we check in on one another to make sure everyone’s ok, it’s so very sweet and genuine. I love all of our clients and their families, too. I feel very lucky and blessed to be working here; it feels like it was meant to be. They do say that things happen for a reason, and I truly feel my mum and dad, and my godfather, were looking down on me when I made this career move.

What do you hope to achieve through your work?

It’s my goal to make someone’s later years not so scary, to help them feel love, to make memories and have fun, to share laughter or tears – and of course lots of hugs – and show them that we truly care from the bottom of our hearts.

Welcome, Jojo – we couldn’t be happier to have you at Team Ambiance!
