A Magic Moment with Sylvia
Our lovely client Sylvia, who lives with dementia, recently enjoyed a Christmas celebration with the Ambiance Care team to round off an extra-special year in which she reached the momentous age of 90 years young!
We were delighted to celebrate with Sylvia and enjoy a special meal together at Piccolino in Bramhall, courtesy of Sylvia’s son Jonathan, who so kindly wanted to treat us all, as well as his mum.
Our trip was filled with Magic Moments that we’ll all cherish thanks to the fantastic service we received, as well as the generosity of customers on a neighbouring table – more about that further down our article!
All about Sylvia
Sylvia, who has lived in Bramhall, Stockport, since her 20s – her first home overlooking beautiful Bramhall Park – has had an amazing and varied life and a long, successful career.
During her working years, Sylvia owned several hair salons in the local area, later moving into retail with a number of camera shops and, ever the entrepreneur, also branching out into selling fashion items. As if that wasn’t enough, Sylvia was also a keen and talented property developer before finally retiring to enjoy her well-deserved golden years.
We first started working with Sylvia in October 2021, visiting for four hours once per week, and now we pop in daily for an hour, as well as taking her out on longer visits to go shopping and to the hairdressers.
We’ve loved getting to know Sylvia, discovering all about her interesting life and listening to stories of how she’s travelled the world several times over on the QE2, Orient Express and more! She is a truly remarkable woman.
An unforgettable experience
On the day of our festive celebration we first took Sylvia to get her hair done – she always likes to add the final flourish herself! – and afterwards, we made our way over to local Italian restaurant, Piccolino Bramhall, where we witnessed some unmistakeably famous Italian hospitality firsthand.
We were all looking forward to a slap-up meal and certainly weren’t disappointed – the staff really bent over backwards to make sure Sylvia received the VIP treatment and went out of their way to cater to her wishes.
Sylvia had hoped for a scrumptious salmon dish but unfortunately, salmon wasn’t on the menu. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, though, who dashed out to buy some salmon just for Sylvia and cooked it to perfection in typical Italian fashion!
Nobody could believe Sylvia had turned 90 – she’s so glamorous and youthful, after all – and she received plenty of compliments on the night from the amazed staff and other diners! We all had a great time and lots of laughs were in store – customers on a neighbouring table kindly bought us several bottles of prosecco, too, saying that Sylvia’s story and the sound of our laughter had filled their hearts with joy (one to the point of tears)!
It’s sharing moments like these with our clients and their families that make our jobs as dementia carers so rewarding. Nothing beats being welcomed like friends by those we support and their loved ones, and enjoying special times together – times that we will cherish forever.
