Stockport dementia specialist Ambiance Care brings on board Deputy Manager

Last year was a whirlwind for Ambiance Care as we experienced the trials and tribulations of our first year operating as a dementia care specialist in Stockport. Excitingly, towards the end of 2020, we took on a key member of staff, the lovely Angela Sellars – Deputy Manager of Ambiance Care.

Based in Stockport, Angela has worked in care for most of her career. A committed team player, keen to bring out the best in everyone, Angela joins us from a background in nursing with aligned values in providing compassionate, dignified care for people with dementia and their families.

We asked Angela to tell us a bit more about what makes her tick and why she made the decision to work for Ambiance Care – here’s what she had to say.

What’s your professional background?

“Nearly all of my working life has revolved around healthcare and care experience. I worked in the community as a Care Assistant for ten years, later completing Nurse Training and moving over to a surgical and gynae unit. When COVID hit, I was redeployed to Acute Cardiology for four months, and then to the High Dependency Unit.”

What are your values when it comes to work?

“My values have always been to work hard and to aim high. Teamwork is an absolute must – I believe in treating everyone with respect. In any area of work, you’re always learning, and reflection is a big part of this, along with being open and honest.

“It takes a very special person to be a Carer, but it can also be challenging, so I like to work within a team that supports each other, as well as clients and their families. The biggest value that I implement in my work is safety: it’s vital to work safely, to maintain others’ safety, and to always address issues to create a safer environment.”

Why did you want to work with Ambiance Care?

“In my many years of care, I’ve seen how Carers have such little training or support when dealing with challenging behaviours and dementia, which becomes detrimental to the quality of care provided. Ambiance Care believes in providing quality, in-depth dementia training to staff and also supporting clients’ families, which, from experience, seems to be lacking in the homecare setting.

“I like the holistic, person-centred nature of the service, which aims to focus on quality of care. I’ve always felt passionate about enabling people to maintain independence and comfort within their own home, in a safe and dignified way, which Ambiance Care aims to provide.”

What do you hope to achieve in your role?

“For my team, I would like to be supportive and nurturing, helping them to grow within the company. I want everyone to feel valued, appreciated, and enjoy their time at work. For our clients, I would like to really get to know each and every one, their preferences, and to be responsive to their needs. I feel that with my nursing background I’ll be able to produce in-depth and effective care plans.

“I’d also like to promote multi-disciplinary team working with GPs, District Nurses, Physios, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists – and many more!”

Welcome, Angela – we’re happy to have you at Team Ambiance and look forward to what you’ll bring to our dementia care provisions across Stockport, Cheshire and Tameside.
