No one wants to be admitted to hospital. But if you have dementia, a hospital stay is not only distressing, it can lead to a rapid decline in their overall health and wellbeing. Research reveals a distinct deterioration in the physical and mental health of a person with dementia both during and after a hospital admission. If you are currently caring for a loved one with dementia, we doubt this come as much as a surprise. After all an unfamiliar hospital environment is likely to cause acute anxiety and could lead to depression and withdrawal.
